Carhampton Village Fete - Provisional Sat 8th July 2023
There has been a village fete in Carhampton held on and off for at least the last sixty years and most probably a lot longer. Minutes of the village hall management committee meeting held in 1956 record that £100 raised at the fete was donated to the games room fund and thus allowing the project to be completed. It has been held at various locations in the village including The Croft, Winniebrook House, the field that is now village allotments and the garden of the old rectory (now Que House).

The village fete in its present form was resurected in 2009 when the event was held in the barns at Eastbury Farm, a total of £2600 was raised and donated to repairing the village clock. Two more events were held at Eastbury Farm and in 2015 the event was moved to The Recreation Centre, since then the fete has steadily grown in size and popularity.

The profit raised at recent fetes is usually shared between the Recreation Centre and St. John's Church as most of the help and support comes from these two organisations, but donations are often made to other village organisation as well. In January 2019 a defibrillator was purchased from the proceeds of the 2017 village fete; the defibrillator is situated on the outside wall of the Rec building near to the entrance and main road. A subsequent defibrillator training afternoon was attended by over 50 villagers.
The present fete organising committee is made up of members from the Rec Centre, St. John's Church and the parish in general; we are always looking for help and support and would welcome any new members onto the committee.
Fete 2022
After no fete for 3 years due to the dreaded Covid it was good to return to a bit of normal. The committee were very pleased with the event and financiallyit was a great success. Once again entertainment and music was provided by the West Somerset Morris Dancers, Famished Folk and Gadzooks the local ukelele band. This year a sheep shearing demonstration was present which proved to be very popular.

We have recived many comments on the friendly and traditional atmosphere that is in evidence at the fete - long may it continue and it is something which we aim to promote. It was a very hot afternoon and unsurprisingly we ran out of ice creams, pimms and beef burgers far too quickly. Plans are already in place to rectify this for next year.

A big Thank You to all the volunteers, helpers and members of the fete committee who organised the fete and enabled it to run smoothly, without your help it would not have been possible.
All in all a very good day and we look forward to seeing you all again next year on Saturday 8th July 2023.
